talk about nostalgia.
class outing today!!
"class outing" reminds me of what i used to have to do in JC. haha.
my students and i went to East Coast Park tdy. nope, not the kids. it's the teenager/adult class. so the youngest must have been about 14. it was the last day of their class today so we decided to go out and have fun... get away from books (and office, for me)
yupz. so all 12 of us speaking a total of 6 languages on the whole were out together. quite an interesting combination. and we had some nice korean food one of the korean boys brought along with other snacks and all. like fruit and sandwiches and chips and stuff. quite a feast.
watched them go cycling and roller-blading, play volleyball. it's interesting how one can gain satisfaction just by watching people have fun. it's like the "you happy, i happy" mentality. friendship goes beyond the language barrier. these students can converse in i-dunno-what english... enough for the other person to understand. it's quite cool. haha. watch them share their food, tease each other, discuss plans, all in english! it's quite impressive.
kinda bittersweet watching all that going on. it's like feeling happy that they are happy, yet sad in a way because some of them have completed their course and won't be coming back to school.
i didnt realise how much a part of me they'd become until it was time to say "bye" today. it was really quite sad when i watched them cab off to dinner with each other. here's where nostalgia comes into play.
oh well. i dunno but whatever it is, i wish them all the best-est!! an ex-colleague once told me that he doesnt believe in getting close to students (e.g. hanging out, having lunch, etc) because they come and go. by the time you built a rapport with a student, he/she has to leave. and then you can't help but feel sad. somehow im starting to fully comprehend what he meant.
oh well. i suppose i should get used to this over time. this is only the beginning. but that's ok. i'll be looking back at the pretty memories.
on a happier note... it's the long wkend, finally! or rather... longER wkend. im still waiting for some wkend where i get friday to wednesday off or smthg.
haha. what am i thinking?
